The Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has issued a clarion call to all All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates: lead with humility, serve with sincerity, and never lose touch with the people, as preparations for the July 2025 local government elections intensify in Lagos State.
The Governor made this charge today, Tuesday June 24th when he hosted all chairmanship, vice chairmanship, and councillorship candidates of the APC across the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the state at Lagos House, Marina.
In a statement shared shortly after the meeting, Sanwo-Olu emphasized that campaigning should go beyond asking for votes. “I encouraged them to engage deeply with the communities they hope to serve. Campaigning is more than asking for votes – it’s about showing up, being present, and building trust,” he said.
The Governor also highlighted the importance of teamwork at the grassroots level, stressing that real progress is only possible when elected leaders collaborate effectively. “Leadership is a team effort,” he noted. “They need to work closely with their vice chairmen and fellow local officials to drive real progress at the grassroots level, where it matters most.”
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, Sanwo-Olu urged the candidates to be accessible, accountable, and genuinely committed to service. “Our people deserve leaders who are accessible, accountable, and committed to genuine service. That is the standard we must hold ourselves to,” he added.
The meeting comes as part of broader efforts by the Lagos State Government and the APC to ensure a people-focused, impactful electioneering process—one that prioritizes the needs and aspirations of Lagosians at the local level.
As the July 13 election date draws near, the Governor’s message sets the tone for what the ruling party expects from its flagbearers: grassroots connection, servant leadership, and unwavering dedication to community development.
