With the July 12 local government elections fast approaching, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has inaugurated a 40-member campaign council to drive its electoral push across the state’s 57 local council areas.
The council, unveiled on Tuesday in Ikeja, is chaired by former APC Lagos State Chairman and ex-Commissioner for Home Affairs, Babatunde Balogun. Razak Ajala will serve as secretary.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, the APC described the new campaign structure as a strategic move to deepen grassroots engagement and mobilise support ahead of the crucial polls.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the current Lagos APC Chairman urged members of the newly formed council to swing into action immediately.
"The election is near. I urge you all to hit the ground running," he said. "Take our message to every corner of Lagos. Engage the people, mobilise them, and showcase the progress our local governments have made. We must win hearts—and votes."
The council has been divided into six directorates, each led by key party figures:
-
Mobilisation: Oyinlomo Danmole
-
Finance: Olufemi Daramola
-
Security: Dr. Razak Balogun
-
Media and Publicity: Mogaji Oladejo
-
Electoral Matters: Ademola Sadiq
-
Special Duties: Dr. Lateef Ibirogba
To ensure strong regional coordination, former Deputy Governor and current SSA to the President on SDGs, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, along with Lagos State Secretary to the Government, Abimbola Saliu-Hundeyin, will serve as coordinators for Lagos West Senatorial District. For Lagos Central, Abayomi Daramola and Chief Bolanle Olusanya have been appointed co-coordinators. Chief Sunday Aboyade and Fatai Ayoola will serve as deputy coordinators for Lagos West.
The party says the council’s composition is deliberately broad, drawing members from across diverse interest groups within the APC—women, youths, artisans, non-indigenes, lawmakers, cabinet members, and party executives—all brought together under one banner to reflect the party’s grassroots strength.
In his remarks, Babatunde Balogun, who now leads the campaign council, thanked the party for the opportunity and pledged to deliver results.
“We understand the weight of this responsibility, but we are confident in our collective strength,” Balogun said. “Our goal is clear: to win these elections convincingly and set the tone for an even bigger victory in 2027.”
Oladejo echoed this optimism, adding, “Our campaign will focus on real stories—what our councils have achieved, and what more is to come. We're not taking anything for granted.”
The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) will conduct the council polls on July 12. Widely seen as a barometer for public sentiment, the outcome is expected to offer early clues ahead of the 2027 general elections.
