At Last, Tinubu Reconciles Wike and Fubara, Rivers Emergency Rule Nearing End

After months of political tensions and uncertainties in Rivers State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has further restored peace between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Federal Capital Territory Minister ,Nyesom Wike signalling the likely end of state of emergency declared in the oil-rich state.

Key stakeholders in the political crisis of the state, present at the Thursday closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa Abuja, included Governor Fubara, Minister Wike, Speaker of the Rivers Assembly, Honourable Martins Amaewhule, and other top lawmakers. This was the first time President Tinubu was seen publicly with Governor Fubara since an emergency was declared in the state on March 18 due to a gross collapse of governance.

That emergency declaration had led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy Mrs. Ngozi Odu, and the rest of the House Assembly over increasing insecurity and widening cracks among the top leadership.

But Thursday's gathering seemed to be a turning point as shortly after the meeting photos of the president with both Fubara and Wike smiling widely emerged-a strong case for optimism concerning a long-awaited resolution.

Presidency sources confirmed that the gathering met its primary goal: reconciling the fractious factions and laying the groundwork for stability to return to the state.

Many are now of the view that this newly established understanding under the direct intervention of the president may pave the way for a swift halt to emergency rule and thereby restore full-fledged democratic governance, which will in turn alleviate the suffering of the people of Rivers State.
