In a major stride towards improving healthcare delivery in Lagos State, the General Hospital, Badagry has unveiled a state-of-the-art Dialysis Centre aimed at providing life-saving treatment to patients battling kidney-related ailments.
Speaking during a media interaction in his office, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Olatunde Bakare, described the new facility as a game-changer that will not only serve residents of Badagry and its environs but also attract patients from far and wide.
“This centre is not just a response to the growing demand for dialysis treatment; it is a bold step towards positioning Badagry as a hub for medical tourism,” Dr. Bakare said. “We’re offering top-tier services that will be accessible and affordable to all—regardless of social status.”
He emphasized that the vision behind the Dialysis Centre is to make it one of the most affordable in Lagos State—possibly even in the country. According to him, this will be achieved through strategic partnerships and cost-efficient management without compromising quality.
“As someone passionate about public health, I believe healthcare should not be a luxury. While this facility is not a charity, it is built on sacrifice and a deep commitment to community wellbeing,” he added.
Dr. Bakare also highlighted that the project was designed to reduce the number of Nigerians travelling abroad—especially to India, the UK, the US, Germany, and South Africa—for dialysis treatment.
“We want our people to stop taking their dollars overseas for care they can now receive right here in Badagry. The same quality treatment they seek abroad is now available at home,” he said confidently.
During a tour of the hospital’s upgraded infrastructure, Dr. Bakare showcased the newly enhanced Mother and Child Clinic, now equipped with a High Dependency Unit (HDU) and advanced machines for critically ill children, antenatal, and postnatal care.
He assured that the Dialysis Centre would officially open its doors to the public as soon as the medical personnel currently undergoing intensive training are fully certified to operate the facility.
In expressing gratitude, Dr. Bakare lauded Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for his unwavering support and commitment to healthcare development in the state.
“This achievement would not have been possible without the strong backing of our Governor. His financial and moral support has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life,” he said.
He also praised the hospital staff—from security personnel and cleaners to nurses, doctors, consultants, and administrators—for their dedication and hard work.
“Everyone plays a role in the success of this hospital. It’s the collective effort of the entire team that makes this place thrive,” he concluded.
With the launch of the Dialysis Centre, General Hospital Badagry is not only enhancing access to critical care but also reinforcing its position as a leading healthcare institution in Lagos State.
