A 25-year-old fisherman, Awhansu Simeon, has been remanded in Awhanjigo Prison by a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Badagry, Lagos State, after he failed to deliver fish worth ₦60,000 which he had been paid for.
The court, presided over by Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni, ordered Simeon’s remand at the Badagry Custodial Centre after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence. The case has been adjourned to August 28 for review of facts and sentencing, report by CityMood Badagry detailed
According to the prosecutor, Mr. Edet Ekpo, the incident happened on June 21 in Akoro Village near the Seme border. Simeon, along with others who are still on the run, allegedly received ₦60,000 from a customer, Mr. Akpoke Evoh, promising to supply fish. However, he failed to deliver the goods and reportedly used the money for personal purposes.
After repeated efforts by the buyer to get a refund failed, the matter was reported to the authorities. Simeon is now facing charges under Sections 411 and 314 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
