The wife of the Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Mrs Folashade Ajose Kumayon, has extended food palliatives and financial support to senior citizens across the council as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
Ajose, accompanied by the Council Treasurer, Mrs Awusinu Olayinka, Chief of Staff, Mr Cornelius Olabisi Akinleye, and other council officials, visited communities including Ibereko, Itoga, Limca Area and Oko Afo where she distributed food items and cash to elderly residents.
Speaking during the outreach, Ajose said the gesture was inspired by the humanitarian efforts of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the Lagos State First Lady, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo Olu.
She noted that senior citizens had contributed immensely to the development of their families and communities, stressing that they deserved to be remembered, appreciated and supported.
According to her, Independence Day should go beyond ceremonies and speeches and should also be marked through practical acts of love, care and compassion, especially towards elderly and vulnerable residents.
She explained that the food items and financial assistance were provided to offer immediate relief to beneficiaries and bring the spirit of Independence closer to residents at the grassroots.
For some beneficiaries, the gesture was both unexpected and deeply appreciated.
A beneficiary in Itoga, Mr Wheto Moses, described the intervention as unprecedented, saying it was the first time he would directly receive such support from government.
Moses thanked Ajose for remembering him and other senior citizens, saying the gesture showed that people at the grassroots had not been forgotten.
At Ibereko, Mrs Olabode Florence also expressed appreciation, saying the food and cash support would help her take care of her family needs, at least for the meantime.
She thanked Ajose for the initiative and prayed for continued strength and wisdom for her to sustain programmes that positively impact residents across Olorunda LCDA.
The outreach provided a practical expression of care and inclusion as Olorunda residents joined Nigerians across the country to celebrate the nation’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
