The Sokoto State Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Dadi Adare, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the ongoing Illela-Badagry Super Highway, saying the project will boost socio-economic development and open up rural communities across the state.
Adare made the remarks on Friday in Sokoto while speaking with journalists on the progress recorded since Nigeria’s independence. His comments were reported on October 3, 2026.
The commissioner said the highway, which runs from Illela in Sokoto State to Badagry in Lagos State, would improve access to markets, schools and agricultural communities while facilitating the movement of farm produce and strengthening economic activities.
“We are all witnessing a major road which is under construction from Illela down to Badagry, which is ongoing and when completed will certainly help to improve socio-economic development of our state and the nation at large,” Adare said.
The Federal Government had earlier flagged off the 1,068-kilometre Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, designed to connect communities across Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Ogun and Lagos states.
Adare also highlighted other infrastructure projects in Sokoto, including the ongoing Sokoto-Gusau road, which he said would further improve transportation and economic activities.
On security, the commissioner said the Federal Government had collaborated with the state government in training Forest Guards, while the military, police and civil defence personnel continued to work with the state to protect lives and property.
He called on district heads, village heads, local government chairmen and residents to remain vigilant, stressing that community members have an important role to play in identifying suspicious activities and supporting security agencies.
Adare also outlined several achievements of the Sokoto State Government under Governor Ahmed Aliyu, including the renovation and construction of schools, agricultural support through fertiliser, chemicals and improved seeds, provision of logistics to security agencies and the drilling of more than 250 solar-powered boreholes across communities.
He said the state government had also constructed and rehabilitated roads, supported transportation across local government areas and undertaken desilting and beautification projects across the state.
The commissioner attributed the administration’s achievements to the support and guidance of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the APC leader in Sokoto State.
Asked about the 2027 elections, Adare appealed to residents to continue supporting the government and called on them to support the APC from the presidential level to the local government and councillorship levels, saying this would enable the continuation of the development programmes he highlighted.
