Operatives of the Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service have intercepted contraband goods worth N365.16 million, including 1,306 bags of expired noodles and 3,300 cartridges of explosive materials.
The seizures were disclosed by the Customs Area Controller of the command, Comptroller Abdullahi Kaila, during a press briefing in Seme, Badagry.
Kaila said the seizures were recorded through proactive intelligence driven anti smuggling operations aimed at preventing prohibited and harmful goods from entering the country.
According to him, the expired noodles were discovered in a truck that had been deceptively declared as carrying food items. Upon examination, officers found 1,306 sacks of expired and waste noodles, each weighing 50 kilogrammes, with some already deteriorated and visibly decomposing.
Other items seized include 1,268 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 373 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, 90 packs of Tramaking 250mg, 69 packs of Royal Tapentadol 250mg and 310,000 sticks of Time and Yes cigarettes.
Kaila disclosed that the 3,300 cartridges of explosive materials had been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit for safe custody and further investigation.
He said the seizures demonstrated the command’s commitment to securing Nigeria’s borders, protecting public health and preventing prohibited items from gaining entry into the country.
The Customs Area Controller also revealed that the command generated N19.84 billion in revenue, representing an increase from the N15.94 billion recorded during the corresponding period in 2025.
He attributed the improved revenue performance to sustained enforcement and intelligence led operations, while calling for stronger collaboration among border security and regulatory agencies.
In line with the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, the intercepted consignments were handed over to relevant sister agencies for appropriate action.
