Relief has finally come for Mr. Ogunleye Kayode, a middle-aged Badagry resident who was critically injured in a reckless driving incident involving suspected Yahoo boys, following the decisive intervention of Lagos State governorship aspirant and philanthropist, Hon. Dr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, who made an initial ₦6 million deposit and pledged to fully fund his long-awaited corrective surgery at Igbobi Orthopaedic Hospital
Kayode’s ordeal was first brought to public attention by social commentator Prince Babajide Akran, who raised the alarm on social media over his worsening condition and inability to offset mounting medical bills at Badagry General Hospital. Building on this, Badagry Today took up the case, amplifying calls for urgent assistance and consistently drawing attention to his plight.
At the time, the victim remained stranded in the hospital due to non-payment of bills. Following Badagry Today’s intervention and continuous reportage, several political leaders in Badagry responded with financial support. However, these contributions initially proved insufficient. It was through further advocacy by Badagry Today that more help came, including the decisive intervention of the Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, who settled the outstanding balance, leading to Kayode’s eventual discharge.
Despite leaving the hospital, Kayode’s battle was far from over. Doctors recommended a corrective surgery for his broken leg, a procedure costing several millions of naira, which he could not afford. For months, his condition lingered without a clear solution.
In a new development, Kayode recently reached out directly to Badagry Today to share a breakthrough. According to him, Lagos State Governorship aspirant and philanthropist, Hon. Dr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, had stepped in after learning of his condition, offering to take full responsibility for his medical treatment at the National Orthopedic Hospital, Igbobi.
Kayode disclosed that Ajose made an initial payment at the hospital and committed to covering the entire cost of the surgery. Acting on this intervention, the long-awaited procedure was carried out successfully a few days ago.
Speaking exclusively with Badagry Today from his hospital bed, an elated Kayode expressed deep gratitude to MR. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose for what he described as a life-saving intervention. He also acknowledged the critical role played by Badagry Today in keeping his story in the public eye, noting that without the platform’s persistence, help might not have come.
He further extended appreciation to all political leaders, including Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, Member of the House of Representatives for Badagry Federal Constituency; Babatunde Hunpe; and Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode, among others, as well as individuals in Badagry who supported him at different stages of his ordeal, offering prayers for their continued success.
This development underscores the impact of sustained media advocacy, as Badagry Today’s consistent efforts not only amplified a desperate call for help but ultimately connected a victim in need to life-changing support.
