Badagry Tourism Development Centre Appoints Prince Olu Kosoko, Bukola Agemo as Board Chairman, Secretary

The newly established Badagry Tourism Development Centre (BTDC) has announced the appointment of Prince Olu Kosoko as the Chairman of its Board and Ms. Olubukola Miriam Agemo as Secretary. The announcement, made on Friday, October 3, 2025, follows the earlier appointment of Dr. Abolaji Sewhude Akande as the Director General of the Centre.

According to an official statement released by the Centre, the BTDC was set up to reposition Badagry as a premier tourism hub in Nigeria and Africa, with a clear mandate to drive innovation, research, capacity building, and sustainable partnerships within the tourism sector.

Badagry, often described as the cradle of civilisation in Nigeria, holds a unique place in global history for its role in the transatlantic slave trade and its rich cultural heritage. The Centre, the statement noted, is a bold step towards preserving this legacy while advancing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to position Nigeria as a global investment destination.

Prince Olu Kosoko, the new Chairman, brings extensive global experience, having consulted for multinational firms including Deloitte UK and KPMG UK. With expertise in governance, compliance, and destination branding, and an academic background that includes a Master’s degree in International Public Relations from Cardiff University, Kosoko is expected to provide strategic leadership to the Centre’s operations.

Ms. Olubukola Miriam Agemo, appointed Secretary, has carved a niche in corporate communications, entertainment, governance, and trade policy. Currently serving as Director for Government Affairs at the Badagry Chamber of Commerce, Agemo has worked extensively with international development partners, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and African policymakers to drive investment and economic reforms.

Together, their appointments signal a blend of global insight and local commitment aimed at strengthening Badagry’s position as a cultural and economic hub.

The BTDC board is composed of seasoned tourism practitioners, consultants, researchers, and media experts, reflecting the Centre’s goal of creating a well-rounded and impactful governance structure.

“The Badagry Tourism Development Centre is not just about promoting heritage,” the statement read. “It is about shaping the future of tourism, empowering local communities, and advancing Nigeria’s creative economy.”

With the new leadership in place, expectations are high that Badagry will not only reclaim its place as a historic tourism landmark but also emerge as a model for sustainable tourism development in Africa.
