Residents of Olorunda Local Council Development Area have called on the council authorities to urgently clear the canal stretching across Okuju, Aradagun, Ilado, and Imeke, citing growing fears of flooding and environmental hazards.
According to Olorunda Concord, the residents lamented that the canal has been neglected for years, leading to blockages that now endanger lives and property.
“With the rains intensifying, the risks increase daily. This canal has long been overdue for clearing, and if nothing is done, we may face avoidable disasters in our communities,” the statement read.
They appealed to the current administration to prioritize the project as part of its “First 100 Days in Office” commitments, stressing that such an intervention would not only avert flooding but also demonstrate the council’s dedication to community development and public safety.
The residents expressed hope that their concerns would be addressed swiftly, noting that a timely response would go a long way in strengthening trust between the government and the people it serves.
