It was a proud moment for Badagry and the Nigerian tourism community as Hon. Apata Samson Nunayon received the Africa Tourism Leadership and Development Award at the 10th edition of the Africa Future Leadership Conference and Awards (AFLCA) held at Pistis Hub, Maryland, Ikeja, Lagos.
The award celebrates individuals who have shown outstanding leadership, creativity, and impact in their fields. Hon. Apata’s tireless efforts in promoting tourism across Lagos, the South-West region, and Nigeria at large earned him this well-deserved recognition.
As the National Vice President (South-West) of the Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria (ATPN), Hon. Apata has played a key role in shaping Nigeria’s tourism landscape through various innovative initiatives. His expertise covers tourism product development, community-based tourism, destination promotion, and media tourism.
Over the years, Hon. Apata has distinguished himself through remarkable achievements, including:
Chairman/CEO, Eko Destination Ltd and Eko Tourism Radio
Former Chairman, Lagos State Supervisors for Education Forum
Former Supervisor for Tourism, Education, and Environment, Badagry Local Government
Former Chairman, ATPN Lagos Chapter
Founder of several notable tourism projects such as Miss Tourism Badagry International, Badagry Citi-Tour, the first Limousine Tourist Ride in Badagry and Lagos, Tourism Experts Hub Africa (TEHA), and the Conference of Lagos Tourism Stakeholders, among others
Hon. Apata’s passion for community-based tourism and his vision for sustainable tourism development perfectly reflect the mission of AFLCA — to honour individuals driving leadership, innovation, and positive change across Africa.
The Africa Future Leadership Conference and Awards (AFLCA) remains a platform that brings together leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and changemakers to celebrate excellence and inspire a new generation of African trailblazers.
