Two Feared Dead as Car Crashes into Truck on Lagos–Badagry Expressway
Accident scene

Tragedy struck on Saturday afternoon along the ever-busy Lagos–Badagry Expressway as a Toyota car rammed into a stationary truck at Divine Bus Stop, Ijanikin, leaving two men feared dead.

The crash occurred around 1:20 p.m., involving a Toyota car with registration number FST 450HG and a broken-down truck marked LSR 243YC.

Eyewitnesses told Badagry Today that the victims, who had just finished shopping for groceries, were returning with cartons of milk, Milo, juice, and other household items when the accident happened. Both men reportedly sustained severe injuries, with one suffering deep cuts from the neck through his chest and stomach.

“They were bleeding profusely. We don’t know if they will make it,” an eyewitness, Mayowa, said.

According to him, the driver of the car lost control while trying to avoid hitting a young boy who was crossing the road with a bucket of water, but instead rammed into the stationary truck.

“The truck had broken down, and the mechanic working on it had just stepped aside minutes before the crash. If he had still been under the truck, he would have been crushed,” Mayowa added.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who arrived shortly after, initially faulted the truck driver for leaving the vehicle on the highway. However, they later confirmed the truck was under repair before the collision.

While some witnesses blamed the truck’s presence on the road for the accident, others pointed to the car driver’s speed and lack of caution.

The injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, but as of press time, their conditions remained uncertain.
