Tragedy in Lagos as Police Arrest NURTW Official Over Rider’s Death

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) member, Shamsideen Adio, for allegedly beating a dispatch rider to death on Tapa Street, Lagos Island.

According to reports, the clash started after Adio accused the dispatch rider of scratching his vehicle. What began as an argument quickly turned violent, with Adio and some of his colleagues allegedly attacking the rider until he collapsed.

A journalist, Chris Nwandu, who shared a video of the incident on Facebook, revealed that the attack took place on Wednesday. He claimed Adio is notorious for brutalizing tricycle operators in the area, citing another recent case where a victim was hospitalized after a similar assault.

Unfortunately, the dispatch rider later died from the injuries sustained. Police sources confirmed that Adio has since been arrested and is now in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department.
