The Cross River State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Morrison Ogbonna, was discovered lifeless in his hotel room in Calabar in the early hours of yesterday.
A source who spoke on condition of anonymity explained that some officers had gone to the hotel to pick him up. When he didn’t respond, they knocked on his door repeatedly without success. They then alerted the hotel management, who opened the room and found him dead.
Ogbonna had only recently been posted to Cross River in August, taking over from Rachel Umebuali.
Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo-Obase, said:
“I can confirm to you that it is true, but what led to his death is what I can’t say for now.”
