The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged Islamic cleric, identified as Alfa Basiru, after he was allegedly found with items suspected to be human flesh at the Ibadan Toll Gate along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to Vanguard the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the arrest in a statement released yesterday on the Command’s verified X (formerly Twitter) handle. He explained that the discovery was made during a routine Stop and Search operation by the Federal Highway Patrol Team on a Lagos-bound commercial bus with registration number XA 561 IRG.
According to him, the case has been handed over to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, for further investigation. Forensic tests will also be conducted on the recovered items to confirm their nature.
In a separate incident, police operatives recovered an abandoned Toyota Camry after its driver fled during another Stop and Search exercise on the expressway. Osifeso said the vehicle has been taken into custody, urging anyone with valid ownership documents to come forward and claim it.
He stressed that the ongoing Stop and Search operations are not mere show, but part of deliberate and strategic measures to ensure law and order, while safeguarding the lives of residents and travellers in Oyo State.
