Six people have been arrested in Lagos for allegedly vandalising a government-installed barricade at Obalende Roundabout, one of the city’s busiest traffic points.
Those arrested have been identified as Matthew Yohana, 19; Jinadu Aliyu, 33; Yohanna Adamu, 29; Ayuba James, 25; Umoru John, 19; and Yakubu Ali, 25.
Confirming the arrest, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the suspects will be prosecuted.
“All those picked up will face the full weight of the law. We will not tolerate lawlessness or acts that threaten public safety and the environment in Lagos State,” Wahab said.
The incident comes as the state intensifies its crackdown on vandalism and disorder. In recent months, several arrests have been made in connection with illegal protests, destruction of public property, and obstruction of traffic in areas like Ojota and Ikeja.
According to officials, the clampdown is part of wider efforts to safeguard public infrastructure and keep Lagos safe, especially at major junctions and commercial hubs.
The government is urging residents to play their part by reporting vandalism and other acts that could put lives and property at risk.
Reaffirming the government’s stance, Wahab added: “We are committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring Lagos remains safe, secure, and welcoming for all.”
