Two outstanding young leaders from Badagry, Ajande Pascal Viweavo and Jacob Francis Waniyon, have been appointed as YOMA Ambassadors by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), marking a major recognition of youth leadership from the ancient town.
The announcement was made on Friday, July 4, during a special event held at Alausa, Ikeja. Both ambassadors are also active members of the Lagos State Youth Parliament, representing a generation of changemakers committed to empowering young people.
YOMA—short for “Youth Agency Marketplace”—is a UNICEF and Generation Unlimited initiative designed to connect African youth with life-changing opportunities for skills development, community engagement, and meaningful employment. The platform helps young people learn, earn, and grow while tackling real-world challenges through innovation and collaboration.
Speaking to Badagry Today shortly after the announcement, Ajande Pascal Viweavo expressed excitement and a strong sense of responsibility.
“As UNICEF YOMA Ambassadors, we’re committed to creating more opportunities for youth in Lagos and Badagry,” he said. “This role is a big step forward in helping young people unlock their potential. With UNICEF’s support, we’ll bring skills development, innovation, and real impact to our communities. We’re ready to take on this challenge and make a difference.”
The appointment of Viweavo and Waniyon is seen as a proud moment for Badagry, spotlighting the area's growing influence in youth leadership across Lagos State.
Community members, especially the youth, have expressed joy and encouragement, praising the new ambassadors as worthy role models and a sign of better things to come.
With their new roles, Viweavo and Waniyon are expected to work closely with stakeholders to drive initiatives that empower young people, address local challenges, and build a more inclusive future for all.
Their journey is just beginning, but one thing is certain—Badagry youth now have stronger voices at the table.
