Amid rising political tensions ahead of the upcoming local government elections in Lagos State, a respected traditional ruler in Badagry, His Royal Majesty Aholu Jimoh Fabiyi, has firmly denied claims that he endorsed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate, Barrister Medemaku Abayomi Noah.
The monarch addressed the speculation on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate, Hon. Babatunde Athande Hunpe, and his campaign team at the palace during their stop at Ward I, Ikoga-Zebbe.
Reacting to swirling rumours linking him to the PDP candidate — who hails from his own community — Aholu Fabiyi described the claims as unfounded and misleading.
“I’ve been hearing rumours that I endorsed the PDP candidate simply because he hails from my community,” the monarch said. “Let me state clearly and publicly today — that rumour is false. Neither I nor my cabinet has endorsed any candidate from an opposition party for the forthcoming local government elections.”
He went on to express unwavering support for the ruling APC and its candidate.
“We remain firmly with the APC, and I fully endorse Hon. Babatunde Hunpe as the next Chairman of Badagry Local Government,” he declared.
The visit was part of the APC candidate’s grassroots campaign tour across wards in Badagry, where Hunpe and his team have continued to engage local leaders, community groups, and residents to consolidate support ahead of the elections.
The monarch’s public declaration is expected to further boost Hunpe’s chances, especially among traditional institutions and local stakeholders in the historic town.
