An Ilorin Upper Area Court sitting in Ganmo, Kwara State, has ordered the remand of popular Islamic scholar and school proprietor, Alhaja Kafilat Kaola, at the Oke Kura Correctional Facility in Ilorin over a defamation case brought against her by fellow cleric, Alfa Taofeek Akeugbagold.
During Monday’s proceedings, counsel to Alhaja Kaola urged the court to grant her bail on self-recognition, citing her public standing and assuring that she would not evade trial.
However, the plaintiff’s counsel, Ajasa Ademola, opposed the application, arguing that she was not entitled to bail due to her alleged involvement in a similar incident. Ajasa presented a viral video purportedly showing Kaola disparaging a judge and a lawyer in a previous case.
After listening to arguments from both sides and reviewing the evidence, the presiding judge declined the bail request and ordered that Alhaja Kaola be remanded in custody until the next hearing, scheduled for July 17, 2025.
