The Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs and Director General of the Badagry Independent Campaign Council (ICC), Hon. Ibrahim Layode, yesterday hosted a special Hajj thanksgiving and welcome-back prayer session at the Badagry Central Mosque in a heartfelt display of gratitude and community spirit. The event, which drew a large crowd of Muslim faithful, political supporters, and community leaders, was organized to mark the successful return of Hajj pilgrims, including Layode himself.
Addressing the congregation after the prayers, Layode reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s unwavering commitment to the rapid completion of the Badagry Central Mosque — a project already nearing its final stages. He also announced plans to construct a perimeter fence around the mosque’s prayer ground, a move aimed at enhancing the safety and sanctity of the holy site for worshippers.
“The completion of this mosque is not just a promise; it is a priority for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and this administration,” Layode declared, to enthusiastic applause from the audience. “We also recognize the importance of securing our sacred spaces. That’s why we are moving forward with the fencing of the prayer ground.”
In a gesture that warmed hearts, Layode further announced the award of two Hajj Sponsorships to members of the “Women’s Circle,” a group of dedicated female congregants from the Central Mosque. He charged the group with selecting two deserving women who will be fully sponsored to perform the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
“This is just a small way of appreciating the commitment and faith of our women,” Layode said. “Let the group come together and choose two members. By the grace of God, we will send them to Hajj next year.”
Joining Layode at the event was his close friend and fellow pilgrim, Alhaji Ladun Olatunde, the Lagos State Chairman of the Transport Owners and Drivers Association of Lagos State (TODAL). Alhaji Olatunde made a generous — though undisclosed — financial donation to the mosque. His act of giving was immediately complemented by a personal thanksgiving contribution of ₦100,000 from Layode himself.
Also present at the event was Alhaji Akeem Adeyemi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Vice Chairmanship candidate for Badagry Local Government, who lent his support to the initiative and joined in the prayers.
The Central Mosque was filled to capacity, with congregants from all walks of life in attendance. Members of the Badagry Independent Campaign Council, the political group headed by Layode, were also prominently present, adding to the vibrant and spiritual atmosphere.
The event not only served as a moment of religious reflection but also as a reaffirmation of government’s commitment to the spiritual and infrastructural upliftment of the Badagry Muslim community.
As worshippers departed the mosque with renewed hope and gratitude, many expressed appreciation for Layode’s leadership and continued support for religious and community development in Badagry.
