With just weeks to the July 12, 2025, local government elections in Lagos State, the Labour Party (LP) in Ajeromi-Ifelodun has declared its readiness to wrest power from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at a well-attended General Assembly held at the party’s secretariat on 13 Odofin Street, Olodi Apapa, LP chieftain and grassroots mobilizer, Francis Chima — popularly known as Omobarca — expressed confidence that the party is on the verge of a major political upset in the LGA.
“We are united, we are vibrant, and we are ready,” Omobarca said, drawing cheers from party supporters. “If we remain focused and speak with one voice, we will defeat the APC and rewrite the story of our community.”
The event marked the official campaign launch for the party’s six councillorship candidates in Ajeromi-Ifelodun. In a symbolic moment, Omobarca personally handed over LP flags to each candidate, urging them to stay committed to the cause and campaign with courage.
A major highlight of the event was the presence of six respected traditional rulers in the community — a show of grassroots support that boosted morale among attendees. The royal fathers included Chief Akeem Oseni (Bale of Amukoko), Chief Abdulateef Ojora (Bale of Alaba), Chief Jide Ojora (Bale of Alafia), Bale Taiwo Okere, Bale Balogun Abukekere, and Bale Idris Ojora.
Omobarca commended the Baales for their continuous support and dedication to community development, assuring them of the Labour Party’s readiness to work hand in hand with traditional institutions if elected. He also pledged to personally sponsor all agent fees for the election, a move that earned a round of applause from party members.
He warned against internal divisions and personal interests that could derail the party’s chances, saying, “The LP is bigger than any one individual. A house divided against itself cannot stand.”
Also addressing the crowd, LP’s LGA Chairman, Ejimadu, called on members to intensify grassroots campaigns and mobilize voters ahead of the elections. He stressed that victory would require hard work, unity, and full participation in the electoral process.
“Our strength lies in our people,” he said. “We must engage them, educate them, and protect their votes.”
Party leaders also expressed confidence in the electoral commission's ability to conduct free and fair polls, urging voters to stay alert and ensure their votes count.
The event ended in high spirits, with music, dancing, and the distribution of food and gift items — all reinforcing the party’s message of unity, hope, and change.
With the Labour Party now energised and confident, all eyes are on Ajeromi-Ifelodun as the countdown to the July 12 elections continues.
