FG Honours Officer Who Rejected ₦10m Bribe From Suspected Ritualist Arrested in Badagry

The Federal Government has honored an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Prince Orji Ogochukwu, for rejecting a ₦10 million bribe from a wanted suspected ritualist, Obi Levi Obieze, who was arrested while attempting to flee the country through the Seme border in Badagry.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), in a statement shared on its verified Facebook page, praised Officer Ogochukwu for what it described as “integrity in action,” highlighting his bravery and moral fortitude in the face of serious temptation.

“In a time when moral values are constantly tested, his courageous stand is a shining example of the kind of leadership our nation needs,” the agency wrote. “Officer Ogochukwu’s action mirrors the 7 for 7 National Values Charter, embodying Integrity, Responsibility, Leadership, and a deep commitment to Security and Service.”

The suspect, identified as Obi Levi Obieze — also known as Levi Obu Onyeka — is believed to be a notorious ritualist and kidnapper linked to multiple heinous crimes in Enugu State. He was arrested on Wednesday by operatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Lagos Command, while trying to slip into the Benin Republic on a commercial motorcycle.

Sources say Obieze had been on the run for weeks following a nationwide manhunt triggered by his alleged involvement in a series of ritual killings and kidnappings. Authorities placed him on a watchlist as public concern grew over his criminal activities.

In a calculated move, Obieze reportedly disguised himself as a regular traveler, blending in with locals who commonly use motorcycles to navigate the busy Seme border corridor. However, alert immigration officers recognized him and quickly moved in to make the arrest without incident.

Described in some circles as a "billionaire native doctor," Obieze is said to have used his wealth and influence to evade capture until now. His arrest is considered a significant breakthrough in the efforts of law enforcement agencies to dismantle cross-border criminal networks.

On Thursday, the Lagos Command of the Immigration Service formally handed the suspect over to the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.

In its tribute, the NOA said Officer Ogochukwu's decision to do the right thing — even when no one was watching — is a beacon of hope for a better Nigeria.

“This act of patriotism and moral strength gives hope for a better Nigeria and unwavering ethical standards,” the agency stated. “Thank you, Prince Orji Ogochukwu, for reminding us all that true national pride begins with doing the right thing.”

The investigation into Obieze’s activities is ongoing, with authorities promising to release more details in the coming days.
