Badagry came alive over the weekend as Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship candidate for the 2025 Badagry Local Government election, officially launched his campaign with a powerful blend of tradition, faith, and grassroots mobilisation.
Accompanied by his running mate, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi, his wife Chief (Mrs.) Elizabeth Hunpe, and all ten councillorship candidates, Hunpe began the campaign with visits to revered traditional and religious leaders in Badagry, seeking blessings and spiritual guidance for the journey ahead.
The first stop was the palace of the Akran of Badagry, His Royal Majesty Aholu Menu-Toyi I (LLD, OFR, JP). Addressing the monarch, Hon. Hunpe described the visit as a sacred tradition. “We believe in starting with prayers and blessings from our royal father—it’s a mark of respect and cultural grounding,” he said. In response, the Akran prayed for a peaceful campaign and divine success at the polls.
The campaign team also paid homage to High Chief Hundogan Samuel, the Agoloto of Badagry Kingdom, who offered words of encouragement and spiritual support, praying for a hitch-free and impactful campaign.
Next was a stop at the home of the Chief Imam of Badagry Division, Fadilatul Sheikh Abdulhakeem Uwais Akewusola, who prayed for unity, divine wisdom, and victory for the APC flagbearers.
The royal tour continued to Posukoh Quarters, where Chief Sulaimon Iroko, the Posu-elect of Badagry, received the team warmly and offered prayers for electoral success and purposeful leadership.
The day reached a crescendo at Ward B, where the campaign rally drew a massive crowd of party faithful, community leaders, youth groups, and market women, all draped in APC colours and chanting songs of solidarity.
Chief Moses Zannu Ogunbiyi, the APC Apex Leader in Badagry, praised party members for their loyalty and commitment. “Let’s take this campaign to every home, every street,” he charged. “We must deliver Hon. Hunpe and all our candidates with resounding votes.”
The APC LGA Chairman, Hon. Muritala Gafar Meyon, echoed the sentiment, calling the campaign a defining movement for Badagry’s future. “This is about more than politics. It’s about building a legacy of good governance. We are united, disciplined, and ready,” he said.
Director-General of the campaign, Hon. Yahaya Lateef, fired up the crowd with a passionate rallying call:
“This is a campaign of vision—of leadership that listens, includes, and delivers. Let every compound, market, and home resound with our message. No effort must be spared. We’re not just gathering votes; we’re securing development.”
In his speech, running mate Hon. Akeem Adeyemi emphasized unity as the campaign’s driving force. “We’ve come this far together, and together, we’ll win,” he declared.
Taking the podium to loud cheers, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe expressed deep gratitude to supporters. “Your belief in this project inspires us. What we are building is a Renewed Badagry—one founded on unity, inclusion, and progress,” he said. “This journey is not about one man. It’s about all of us creating a future we can be proud of.”
The day’s highlight was the official presentation of the APC flag to Hon. Sareaje Esther Mautin, the councillorship candidate for Ward B, marking the official commencement of the ward-by-ward campaign trail.
With momentum on their side, the APC campaign train is set to continue with strategic engagements, community walkthroughs, and intensive grassroots mobilization in the coming days, as the countdown to July 12 gathers steam.
