Gbenu Bows Out with Landmark Projects, Set to Commission Schools, Court, Roads, Cementery, Others in Badagry West

The administration of Hon. Gbenu Henugbe Joseph is set to close its chapter with a grand gesture of service and accountability as it commissions a series of completed projects across Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

Scheduled for Thursday, July 24, 2027, the outgoing chairman will host a Valedictory Ceremony alongside a comprehensive tour of newly completed infrastructure projects, signaling the end of a tenure that has been widely hailed for its developmental focus and people-first leadership.

The event, which will take place at the Council Secretariat in Kankon by 12:00 noon, is expected to attract community members, traditional leaders, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders from across the LCDA. However, activities will begin earlier at 10:00 AM, when guests and officials will embark on a commissioning tour to inspect and unveil several landmark projects executed under Gbenu’s administration.

Among the highlighted projects is the newly built Primary Health Centre in Bapo, which now offers rural dwellers access to quality, responsive medical care. The facility is fully equipped and designed to bridge the healthcare gap in underserved communities.

The tour will also take guests through the newly constructed Boglo Way, now fitted with solar-powered streetlights. This development not only improves road access and safety, especially at night, but also contributes to the local economy by enabling nighttime movement and commerce.

Education received a major boost under Gbenu’s leadership, with the renovation of classroom blocks at Sito Gbethrome Secondary School along the Seme-Badagry Expressway. The upgraded facility now features solar installations and modern fittings, ensuring a more conducive learning environment for both students and teachers.

In recognition of the cultural and spiritual needs of the people, the administration also developed the Apa Community Cemetery. The project includes distinct burial sections for Christians, Muslims, and traditional royal families—offering a dignified and inclusive resting place that honors the diversity of the community.

Other key projects set for commissioning include the new Administrative Office Complex in Kankon, built to enhance public service delivery with a modern workspace for council staff, and a fully functional Customary Court to support grassroots justice and peaceful dispute resolution.

For many residents of Badagry West, Thursday’s events are more than a farewell—they are a celebration of a leadership that kept its word, delivered on promises, and raised the standard of local governance.

“This is not just the end of a tenure,” said Solomon Zosu, Senior Special Assistant on Information, Tourism & Special Works. “It is the public unveiling of a legacy. It is a moment to reflect on the journey and to show the people what has been done in their name and for their good.”

All residents, community leaders, interest groups, and well-wishers are invited to be part of this historic moment—one that proudly marks the conclusion of a tenure defined by vision, results, and respect for the people.
