Senior citizens in Olorunda Local Council Development Area received a major boost earlier today as the wife of the Lagos State Governor, Mrs. Ibijoke Claudiana Sanwo-Olu, visited the area with food items, clothing, cash and medical support.
The visit formed part of Mrs. Sanwo-Olu’s wider engagement with elderly residents across Badagry Local Government, Olorunda LCDA and Badagry West LCDA.
In Olorunda, the governor’s wife visited senior citizens in Imeke and Iworo-Awori before paying a courtesy visit to the palace of the Oniworo of Iworo-Awori, His Royal Majesty, Oba Oladele Friday Kosoko (fMHR, JP), the Oniworo of Iworo-Awori Kingdom.
Mrs. Sanwo-Olu said the programme was not political but a humanitarian initiative focused on supporting senior citizens and providing relief to elderly residents who need assistance.
According to her, the initiative was pioneered by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and has been sustained in Lagos State as part of her mentorship relationship with the First Lady.
She said the intervention was designed to demonstrate care for senior citizens and ensure that elderly residents are not left without support.
Receiving the governor’s wife at the palace, the Executive Chairman of Olorunda LCDA, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, expressed appreciation for the visit and the support extended to elderly residents in the council area.
Ajose said the gesture reflected genuine concern for the wellbeing of senior citizens and would provide meaningful relief to beneficiaries.
He also reaffirmed the council’s commitment to supporting programmes and initiatives that improve the welfare of residents, particularly vulnerable members of the community.
