A new chapter in youth empowerment has opened in Badagry as the One Love Group of Friends, led by vibrant young community advocate Mr Mego Monday, officially launched a digital training and empowerment programme aimed at equipping local youths with in demand tech skills.
The initiative, tagged Badagry Youth Tech Empowerment Program, selected 50 outstanding youths from hundreds of applications across the area, marking a major step towards preparing Badagry for opportunities in the digital economy.
Speaking through the programme outline, the organisers described the initiative as more than a training exercise, but a deliberate investment in the future of the ancient town. Over the next three weeks, the selected participants will receive intensive hands on training in web development, graphics design, UI and UX design, as well as AI management and Google Workspace tools.
According to the One Love Group, the programme is structured to reward excellence and commitment. At the end of the initial training phase, the top 25 participants will advance to an advanced learning stage, while the top 10 overall performers will receive laptops as support tools. These finalists will also secure a three month internship at the HFDI Hub, where they will gain practical experience by working on real world digital products.
Mr Mego Monday, a son of the soil, has been widely commended for spearheading the initiative, which many stakeholders see as timely and strategic, especially at a period when digital skills are increasingly shaping employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for young people.
The organisers noted that the selection process has been concluded and described as final, while congratulating the successful candidates for emerging as champions among a large pool of applicants. Registered applicants have been advised to check their emails for cohort details and confirmation messages.
With the launch of the programme, many observers believe that Badagry is steadily positioning its youths to compete favourably in the digital space, reinforcing the message that the future of Badagry is indeed loading.
