65th Independence: RIKAY Condemns Cultism, Rallies Support for Tinubu’s Re-Election, Highlights Ongoing Projects in Badagry West

Badagry West LCDA Chairman, Hon. Rauf Ibrahim Kayode Yemaren, fondly known as RIKAY, has urged students in the council area to steer clear of cultism and embrace education as the most reliable path to a successful future.

The council boss gave the charge on Wednesday during the 65th Independence Anniversary celebration at the Alapa Stadium, Ganyingbo-Topa, where pupils and students thrilled the audience with colourful march-pasts, cultural dances, and other patriotic displays.

Visibly impressed by the performances, RIKAY praised the youth for their discipline and energy, urging them to remain focused and determined.

“Cultism and bad groups are spoilers of dreams. Desist from them and be good ambassadors of Badagry West LCDA. Education is your strongest weapon in shaping the future, and this administration will continue to stand by you, investing in your growth and creating opportunities for your dreams to thrive,” he said.

Reflecting on the significance of Independence Day, Yemaren described the event as a reminder of Nigeria’s hard-won freedom and a renewed call to action for unity and progress.

He lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for rekindling hope in Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Agenda, while also commending Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for sustaining the delivery of the state’s THEMES+ Agenda.

Looking ahead, RIKAY openly rallied support for Tinubu’s second term bid in 2027, stressing the need to consolidate on current reforms.

“This Independence Day is also a call for action. We must rally behind President Tinubu as he leads Nigeria to greater heights. As we look toward 2027, let us consolidate on the gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda for the progress of our nation,” he declared.

Highlighting his administration’s strides within a short period, the Chairman revealed that construction of the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Asheri is in progress, with additional land secured to expand the facility. He further noted that perimeter fencing at Methodist Primary School, Sawa, is ongoing, while four additional plots have been purchased for a soon-to-commence Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre.

Other youth-centered interventions, he said, include the Spelling Bee competition, distribution of free GCE forms, free tutorials for students, and the Gbaji and Yard crossover bridge clean-up, among others.

The celebration also featured a lively novelty football match between Seme All Stars and Owode-Asheri FC, which ended 2–1 in favour of Seme All Stars. In a rare show of camaraderie, Hon. Yemaren himself laced up his boots, playing for both sides at different halves—much to the delight of the cheering crowd.

The 65th Independence celebration in Badagry West not only showcased patriotism and cultural pride but also doubled as a platform for the Chairman to outline his developmental agenda and rally grassroots support for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
