The Executive Chairman of Badagry West Local Council Development Area, Hon. Rauf Ibrahim Kayode Yemaren (RIKAY), has announced that the Council will host the 2025 edition of World Tourism Day on Monday, September 29, 2025, at Suntan Beach, along the Seme-Badagry Expressway, starting at 10:00 a.m.
This year’s celebration, themed “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”, will shine a spotlight on Badagry West’s rich cultural heritage and untapped economic potential. Guests and stakeholders can look forward to an exciting lineup of activities, including a cultural fashion contest, local food competition, Zangbeto display, Sato drum performance, inter-community contests, cultural showcases, and an interactive tourism discussion. These programs aim to entertain while also reinforcing Badagry’s reputation as a hub of heritage and sustainable tourism.
Adding depth to the celebration, Dr. Babatunde Olaide-Mesewaku, Former Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, will deliver a keynote lecture titled: “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation: Unlocking Badagry West’s Potentials for the Future.”
The event will also be graced by notable personalities, including Hon. Hontonyon Bamgbose Joseph (fMHR and Apex Leader of Badagry West), who will serve as Father of the Day; Hon. Gbenu Henugbe Joseph, Immediate Past Executive Chairman of Badagry West LCDA; Hon. Bonu Solomon Saanu, Chairman, House Committee on Tourism (LAHA); Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, RAK Commissioner for Youth and Social Development; and Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, Member, House of Representatives, Badagry Federal Constituency. They will be joined by tourism stakeholders, cultural custodians, and community icons.
Speaking ahead of the event, Hon. Yemaren reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to using tourism as a catalyst for community empowerment, economic growth, and cultural preservation. He extended a warm invitation to residents, stakeholders, and visitors, promising a celebration that truly reflects both the spirit and the future of Badagry West.
