In recognition of the pivotal role of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) in shaping the political landscape of Lagos State, the Publisher of August24news.com, Ajagbe Adeyemi Teslim, has presented a specially designed GAC Frame to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.
The presentation, which took place at the Speaker’s office in Alausa, Ikeja, on Tuesday, showcased a large 24 by 34-inch frame bearing the names, photographs, local governments, and senatorial districts of the 35 distinguished members of the Lagos GAC — the state’s apex political decision-making body.
The GAC, established during the tenure of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) as Governor of Lagos, has since evolved into a cornerstone of political stability and governance in the state. It is widely regarded as one of Tinubu’s enduring legacies, serving as a model for structured political leadership and continuity.
Among the figures featured in the frame are President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu; former governors Babatunde Fashola and Akinwunmi Ambode; Speaker Obasa himself; and other prominent political leaders across Lagos East, West, and Central senatorial districts.
The frame also includes a tribute segment in honour of eight late GAC members, including Chief Kemi Nelson, Ambassador Demola Seriki, Chief Lanre Rasaq (KLM), and Oba Olatunji Hamzat, among others.
Explaining the motivation behind the initiative, Mr. Ajagbe said the project was conceived to celebrate the unity and contributions of Lagos’ “35 wise men and women” who have kept the state’s governance on a steady path.
“This frame is not just a compilation of names and faces, it is a statement of unity, continuity, and honour. It is also a research work carried out by our editorial team to remind current and future leaders of the sacrifices of those who came before them,” Ajagbe stated.
He revealed that the presentation to Speaker Obasa marked the beginning of a wider roll-out that will extend to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, state commissioners, lawmakers, council chairmen, and party leaders across Lagos.
Receiving the frame, Speaker Obasa expressed delight at the initiative, commending Ajagbe and his team for their creativity and attention to detail. He described the frame as an important historical archive that will be preserved for generations to understand the evolution of Lagos politics.
In honour of the late GAC members, the Speaker called for a minute’s silence, underscoring their role in strengthening the foundations of governance in the state.
The GAC Secretary, Alhaji Mutiu Are, who also reacted to the gesture, described the council as “one of the beauties of Lagos politics,” while political analyst and publisher, Mojeed Jamiu, hailed the recognition as timely, noting that members of the GAC deserve even greater acknowledgement given their contributions to Lagos’ political stability and development.
The GAC Frame initiative is expected to gain wider attention in the coming weeks as presentations continue across key government and political offices in Lagos.
