Hunpe Turns Badagry LG into Construction Hub with Ongoing Projects Across Five Wards in Bold Launch of GBRA

Barely weeks into office, the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, has rolled out an ambitious wave of infrastructure projects under his administration’s Greater Badagry Rising Agenda (GBRA). The initiative, described as a holistic renewal plan, is aimed at unlocking Badagry’s tourism potential, boosting commerce, and improving the quality of life for residents across all wards.

According to a statement released by the Local Government, the ongoing community road projects are more than just physical works but “arteries of development” that will ease movement, expand trade, connect cultural and historic landmarks, and open up access to education and healthcare.

So far, visible construction and rehabilitation works are underway in five wards:

  • Ward B (Posukoh): Rehabilitation of Imoru Junaid Street, which links Posukoh Road with Soglo Way.

  • Ward C (Awhanjigoh): Mission Avenue is being upgraded to connect key institutions including the historic First Storey Building, Boekoh Primary Health Centre, the Lagos State Skills Acquisition Centre, and the Magistrate Court along Boekoh Road, creating a shorter and more efficient route for commuters.

  • Ward D (Ahovikoh): Work has commenced on the Dansu–Cinema–Hospital Road link, designed to ease movement around Agonkameh, Hundeyin Street, and Onilude Street while directly connecting Hospital Road with Dansu–Cinema Road.

  • Ward H (Yafin): Rehabilitation of classroom blocks at L.A. Primary School is ongoing.

  • Ward I (Ikoga): The Pota Primary Health Centre is undergoing complete remodeling, reinforcing the administration’s pledge to strengthen healthcare delivery.

The council chairman explained that these projects are part of a broader urban renewal plan targeting road networks, social infrastructure, and public utilities, with the ultimate goal of repositioning Badagry as a hub for tourism, commerce, and cultural heritage.

“What we are doing goes beyond road construction,” Hunpe stated. “We are connecting communities to new opportunities, opening up tourism, strengthening education, improving healthcare access, and laying the groundwork for a modern Badagry.”

Hunpe further assured residents that major projects are already lined up for the remaining wards, noting that his infrastructural renewal drive extends well beyond the traditional 100-day benchmark. According to him, the long-term vision is to deliver landmark projects that will redefine Badagry’s development and secure its place as a thriving city for generations to come.
