APC Accuses ADC of Harassing Members During Alimosho Rally

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over alleged harassment of its members during a political rally held in Alimosho, Lagos, on Saturday.

The rally, which saw Labour Party’s former governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, formally announce his defection to the ADC, reportedly turned rowdy as suspected ADC thugs allegedly intimidated residents and APC supporters.

Reacting to the incident, APC Southwest Organizing Secretary, Lateef Ibirogba, described the development as “unfortunate and reckless,” insisting that Lagos has always been known for peaceful political activities.

“What happened in Alimosho is unacceptable. Political rallies should not be turned into avenues for thuggery or harassment. Lagos has enjoyed relative peace, and no individual or group should be allowed to disrupt that,” Ibirogba said.

He further questioned Rhodes-Vivour’s decision to hold his defection rally in Alimosho. “He doesn’t live here, and he doesn’t vote here. Coming here to make such an announcement, only to cause chaos, shows his intentions were not noble,” he added.

Ibirogba stressed that APC in Alimosho remains peaceful and law-abiding, but warned that the party will not tolerate outsiders trying to cause unrest in the community. He urged the police and other security agencies to step in and prevent a recurrence of such incidents in Lagos and across the Southwest.

Reassuring party members, Ibirogba said the APC remains focused on grassroots development and will not be distracted by what he called “desperate political stunts.”
