Apapa Customs Moves to Speed Up Cargo Clearance with 200-Container-Per-Hour Scanners

The Nigerian Customs Service is stepping up its trade facilitation efforts with the installation of fixed scanners at the Apapa Port, a move expected to transform cargo clearance and boost efficiency.

Comptroller Oluwadare Oshoba, who heads the Apapa Area Command, said the new technology will allow the service to scan up to 200 containers every hour, drastically cutting delays and ensuring faster trade processes.

Speaking after inspecting the site for the installation of three scanners near the port’s quayside, Oshoba described the location as “an operational masterstroke,” noting that consignments arriving at Apapa will now undergo high-tech, non-intrusive checks right from the berthing area.

In a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, Tunde Ayagbalo, Oshoba reassured port stakeholders that the command is ready to surpass expectations, stressing that the scanners will eliminate loopholes and make the clearance process seamless.

Meanwhile, in a related development, Ogun Customs boss has urged newly promoted officers to intensify efforts in the fight against smuggling.
