Residents and motorists travelling into Mowo may soon experience relief following the decision of the Olorunda Local Council Development Area to open an alternative access road into the community amid the ongoing reconstruction of the Mowo–Age-Mowo Road.

The emergency route, located beside the Mowo Police Station along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, is currently being cleared, sand-filled and prepared for use. The road will provide temporary access into Mowo through the rear of Local Authority Primary School, helping residents and motorists bypass the heavy traffic caused by the construction work on the main road.

The intervention comes as work intensifies on the first phase of the 600-metre Mowo–Age-Mowo Road project, a development that has significantly slowed movement and made access into the community increasingly difficult.

Speaking during an inspection of the route on Tuesday, the Executive Chairman of Olorunda LCDA, Ajose Peter Kumayon, said the decision to create an alternative access became necessary in order to reduce the hardship being experienced by residents and motorists.

According to him, while the reconstruction of the Mowo–Age-Mowo Road is progressing steadily, the scale of work being carried out has temporarily disrupted the smooth movement of vehicles into and out of the community.

He explained that the newly opened access road would serve as a temporary measure pending the completion of the main road project.

"We understand the hardship our people are facing because of the ongoing construction, and we cannot allow residents to remain stranded. That is why we moved quickly to open this alternative route so that people can still access Mowo without spending long hours in traffic," Ajose said.

The council chairman added that the Mowo–Age-Mowo Road is only one of several roads his administration plans to reconstruct across Olorunda LCDA.

He assured residents that other communities within the council would also benefit from the ongoing road infrastructure drive under his administration.

Ajose reiterated that his government remains committed to delivering critical infrastructure in line with his RESHAPE Agenda, stressing that accessible and durable roads remain one of the major priorities of his administration.

He further noted that beyond reducing traffic congestion, the temporary road reflects the determination of the council to ensure that no community is cut off during the period of reconstruction.

Residents who witnessed the inspection welcomed the move and expressed optimism that the new route would drastically reduce the long hours currently spent trying to enter Mowo and neighbouring communities.

Several motorists described the development as timely, saying the alternative road could save commuters from the daily gridlock that has affected businesses, school runs and movement within the area since construction began.

With the temporary access road expected to become operational soon, many residents now hope that traffic pressure around Mowo will ease while work continues on the major road project.
