Alleged Murder: Son of Ex-SDP Governorship Candidate Calls for Investigation

Samuel, the eldest son of the late former Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, has called for a full investigation into his father’s death, describing the circumstances as both shocking and difficult to understand.

According to him, he had seen his father just a day before his sudden passing and decided to open a case after failing to get a clear explanation of what really happened.

“I saw him the day before. It was shocking to lose him like this. That’s why I opened the case—to find out exactly how he died, because I wasn’t getting any answers. It’s been tough, but I just want to understand what happened. There has to be an explanation, and that’s what we’re waiting for,” he said.

His demand for answers came after a disturbing photo of the late politician’s body, showing bruises on his head, began circulating online, raising doubts that his death was natural. Initial reports had claimed he died peacefully at home in the early hours of Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

Adding to the controversy, an overseas-based investigator, Olujimi Lijoka, alleged in a viral video that about N205 million was suspiciously withdrawn from Akingboye’s account shortly after his death and split across three accounts. He urged the Ikale community to stand up and seek justice.

There were also unverified claims that the late politician, fondly called OBA, may have sustained injuries during a domestic quarrel. But his daughter, Michaella, dismissed such rumours, urging the public to be cautious.

“People should not believe everything they see on blogs and social media. Not all of it is true. We trust the police are doing their job thoroughly, and the truth will eventually come out. Our family fully supports the investigation,” she said.

Detectives from the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, have since visited Akingboye’s residence in Victoria Garden City, Ajah. Five domestic staff were reportedly taken in for questioning, while investigators gathered physical and biological evidence from the scene.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood, assured both the family and the public that no stone would be left unturned in finding out the real cause of Akingboye’s death.

He was said to be hale and hearty, and then suddenly, his body was found in his compound, the CP noted.
