2027: APC Replies Aregbesola’s Claim That ADC Will Take Over Lagos, Aso Rock at Badagry Meeting

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has hit back at former Osun State governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, over his claim that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) would take control of both Aso Rock and the Lagos Government House in 2027.

Aregbesola, alongside former Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, had at the weekend received members of the Labour Party, the Obidient Movement, and the Conscience Forum into the ADC fold at a meeting held in the Badagry Division — covering Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Ojo, Amuwo Odofin, and Badagry LGAs.

In a strongly worded statement released on Sunday, APC spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, dismissed Aregbesola’s remarks as “an empty boast,” accusing him of turning against the very party that built his political career.

“From Lagos Commissioner to Osun Governor and then Minister, Aregbe ate, dined, and thrived on the APC table. Today, in a desperate bid for relevance, he is busy setting fire to the same house that made him. That, dear Nigerians, is political suicide of the highest order,” Oladejo said.

He argued that Aregbesola’s attacks on APC did more harm to his own legacy than to the ruling party.
“When Aregbe condemns the APC, he is not damaging us – he is shredding his own résumé. Nigerians know better than to take such a self-destructive messenger seriously,” Oladejo added.

The Lagos APC also described the ADC as a “political mirage” with no real electoral strength, citing its “embarrassing performance” in recent by-elections. According to the party, placing Aregbesola at the helm of ADC’s ambition is “a recipe for failure” that will collapse in 2027.

“Lagos and Nigeria are not conquered by soundbites. Our people vote for performance, not fairy tales. The APC’s record is visible on the roads, in our schools, in our hospitals, and in our reforms. ADC, on the other hand, remains loud on boasts, empty on substance,” the statement read.

The APC reiterated confidence in its chances at the 2027 polls, stressing that Lagosians and Nigerians would “choose consistency over confusion, credibility over contradictions, and competence over comedy.”
