Village Chief Forces Man to Drink Mixture of Sniper and Gammalin-20 for Stealing Two Corn in His Farm

Osun community of Ipetu Ijesa has been thrown into shock and outrage following an alleged act of jungle justice in which a local chief, Oloye Gbenga Ajibade, reportedly forced a young man to drink a deadly cocktail of pesticides over a petty theft.

The victim, 25-year-old Ebenezer, was accused of plucking just two fresh corn cobs from the chief’s farm on July 31. Eyewitnesses said Ebenezer pleaded desperately for mercy, explaining it was his first time stealing and that hunger had driven him to it. His pleas allegedly fell on deaf ears, report by Tell Magazine detailed

According to witnesses, Oloye Gbenga mixed Gammalin-20 and Sniper—both highly toxic agrochemicals—into a cup and compelled Ebenezer to drink it. He was then left unattended, presumed to die.

The tragedy worsened when news reached Ebenezer’s father that his son had been poisoned. Overcome with shock, he collapsed and died instantly, believing his son was gone.

However, in a dramatic twist, quick-thinking residents rushed Ebenezer to Wesley Guild Hospital in Ilesa, where medical staff successfully neutralized the poison and stabilised him.

Community members claim the chief has a long record of bullying locals and was allegedly cautioned in the past by Ilesa Amotekun over similar misconduct.

On August 8, the Osun State Police Command confirmed Oloye Gbenga’s arrest. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the charges he will face.

A disturbing video linked to the incident has gone viral on social media, fuelling widespread condemnation and sparking renewed calls for an end to jungle justice across Nigeria.
