The Lagos State Police have arraigned two men, Rufai Hammed, 33, and Isaq Muhammed, 25, before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court over the alleged theft of motor batteries valued at N12.7 million.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, the defendants allegedly conspired to steal 174 cartons of Tiger Head super batteries, worth N12,702,000, from a stationary truck at Iyana-Era, Ijanikin, around 2:30 a.m. on August 10, 2025. The stolen items belonged to one Ekene Michael.
Ekpo told the court that the men were caught after the theft and handed over to the police. The offences, he said, contravened Sections 411 and 287 of the Lagos Criminal Law of 2015.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy and theft. Chief Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties in like sum. One of the sureties must also show proof of being an entrepreneur.
The case was adjourned until September 11, 2025, for mention.
