Sanwo-Olu Swears in Recuperated Lagos Council Chairman

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday swore in Hon. Olufemi Akanbi Okeowo as Chairman of Ifelodun Local Council Development Area (LCDA), urging him to strengthen grassroots governance and deliver more dividends of democracy to the people.

Okeowo, who was re-elected in the July 12 council polls, missed the earlier swearing-in ceremony on July 27 due to health challenges. Now fully recovered, he has taken his oath of office and is set to continue steering the affairs of Ifelodun LCDA.

Speaking at the ceremony held at Lagos House, Ikeja, Governor Sanwo-Olu praised Okeowo’s first-term achievements and encouraged him to build on them in his second term.

“We are encouraged by the fact that he did very well in his first tenure, and we believe God has given him the power to do more this second term,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“Ifelodun LCDA is very important to our government. It has a large and diverse population, and we expect him to continue delivering results that will improve the lives of residents.”

The governor also called on council staff and government officials to give Okeowo their full support in order to ensure effective governance at the grassroots.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Hon. Bolaji Kayode Robert, highlighted the importance of civic participation, democratic values, and responsible leadership in strengthening local councils.

With his second term now underway, Okeowo is expected to consolidate on his first-term successes and introduce fresh initiatives that will further transform Ifelodun LCDA.
