Lagos LG Boils Over Legislative Leadership as Councillor drags Colleagues to Court

Tensions are running high in Kosofe Local Government as the battle for the leadership of its legislative arm takes a dramatic turn, with a defamation lawsuit now rocking the political scene.

Hon. Baruwa Sulaimon, councillor representing Ward F, Ojota, has taken legal action against four of his colleagues, accusing them of calling him a “thief,” “fraudster,” and “419” in connection with a disputed land transaction, report by Kosofe Post says

In a letter dated August 11, 2025, and signed by his counsel, Rotimi Seriki (SAN) of Rotimi Seriki & Co., the accused councillors — Adebare Olalekan, Femi Oyeshile, Hakeem Oshijirin, and Christianah Kuboye — were alleged to have made the remarks in the presence of prominent political figures, including APC leader Otunba Bushura Alebiosu, popularly known as “Baba Bush.”

Baruwa’s legal team clarified that while one land deal between him and Councillor Saliu was completed without any issues, a second transaction fell through due to disagreements over the property. They maintained that Baruwa refunded the full purchase price along with an additional ₦300,000, stressing that Saliu has never accused him of wrongdoing and that they remain on cordial terms.

The letter warned that the comments could tarnish Baruwa’s political standing just as the selection of the 8th Legislative Assembly’s leader approaches. The accused councillors have been given seven days to issue a written apology and circulate it to key political leaders in Kosofe or face legal action seeking general and exemplary damages.

Concluding his warning, Seriki wrote pointedly: “A stitch in time saves nine. Be warned.”
