Maryam Lawal, a brilliant graduate of Lagos State University (LASU), has emerged as the Best Graduating Female Student and Second Overall Best Student at the Nigerian Law School for the year 2025 — a feat that has drawn applause across the country, including from the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The young legal star, who also bagged eight academic awards, including one for Corporate Law Practice, is being celebrated as a symbol of excellence, hard work, and determination.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a congratulatory message shared on his Facebook page, praised Maryam’s outstanding performance, describing it as a proud moment for Lagos and for the state-owned university.
“Maryam is a proud alumna of Lagos State University and a fellow Lagosian. Seeing her emerge as one of the top students in the country is a moment of great pride for all of us,” the governor wrote.
He added, “This is the kind of excellence we celebrate in Lagos. Maryam represents the best of us in brilliance, hard work, and quiet determination. Her success is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when talent meets discipline.”
Sanwo-Olu further emphasized the significance of Maryam’s achievement, especially coming from a state institution like LASU, which continues to groom future leaders.
“Congratulations, Maryam. You’ve set the bar high, and I know you’re just getting started,” he concluded.
Maryam’s remarkable success has inspired many young Nigerians, especially students of LASU and other public institutions, proving once again that greatness can be nurtured from anywhere — with the right mix of dedication and opportunity.
