In a surprising twist at the Lagos local government polls, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the councillorship seat for Ward D in Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
Babatunde Dosunmu, who ran on the PDP platform, emerged victorious in what many see as a protest vote against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). According to sources, the APC’s decision to deny its sitting councillor a second-term ticket sparked outrage among residents. That councillor, reportedly popular in the ward, crossed over to the PDP and contested under its banner.
The result? A stunning upset that saw voters back their preferred candidate—despite party lines—sending a strong message to the APC.
This unexpected outcome is already being seen as a warning sign for the ruling party, reflecting growing dissatisfaction with internal party politics and decisions in Lagos Mainland.
