The Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, His Royal Majesty Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, has passed away, marking the close of a remarkable chapter in one of Nigeria’s most respected traditional institutions.
Confirmed by sources close to the royal family, the revered monarch joined his ancestors at the age of 91, after more than six decades of dedicated service to the Ijebu people and the nation. His passing has plunged Ijebuland and the wider traditional leadership structure into mourning.
Oba Adetona, who ascended the throne in 1960, was celebrated for his wisdom, courage, and steadfast commitment to preserving the rich cultural heritage of Ijebuland while fostering its development. He was one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning and most influential monarchs.
Funeral arrangements and official communications are expected from the palace in due course.
May his noble soul rest with his ancestors.
