BREAKING: Newly Sworn-in Lagos Chairmen Appoint Sesan Olowa as Chairman of Conference 57

In a major development just hours after the swearing-in of Lagos council bosses, the Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Sesan Olowa, has been appointed as the new Chairman of Conference 57—the official body representing all 57 local council leaders across Lagos State.

His appointment came alongside that of Hon. Usman Akanbi Hamzat, Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, who was elected to serve as Secretary of the influential group.

The emergence of the new leadership marks the beginning of a fresh chapter for Conference 57, which plays a central role in aligning local government activities with the state’s broader development agenda. The body, made up of 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), is critical to grassroots governance and service delivery across Lagos.

Hon. Olowa’s appointment comes on the heels of his second-term inauguration as Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki, which was conducted earlier today by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu.

Taking to Facebook shortly after his appointment, Hon. Olowa shared a heartfelt message that served both as a reflection and an acceptance speech.

“Earlier today, I was sworn in by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu, for a second term in office as the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government,” he wrote.

“Let me also appreciate my colleagues for the trust reposed in me by appointing me as the Chairman of Chairmen of the League of Conference 57 Chairmen in Lagos State. This is a position I will never take for granted.”

He also gave kudos to the outgoing leadership, led by Hon. Kolade David Alabi, for what he described as a “legacy of service to the people.”

Hon. Olowa’s leadership is expected to build on that legacy by promoting unity, driving innovation in local governance, and ensuring that policies from Alausa reach the grassroots with greater impact.

Political watchers and stakeholders will be keeping a close eye on how this new leadership team shapes the next phase of local governance in Lagos.

Lagos Reporters and Badagry Today will continue to follow developments and report on how Hon. Olowa and his team steer the affairs of Conference 57 in the months ahead.

Congratulations to the new leaders—and to all Lagosians hoping for more effective governance at the grassroots.
