Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Muibi Alade Folawiyo, has broken his silence amid swirling reports alleging his arrest by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over purported mismanagement of public funds.
In a swift response to the trending claims, Folawiyo firmly denied being arrested, clarifying that he was only invited for questioning by the anti-graft agency — an invitation he honoured willingly. The clarification was issued in a statement released on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Olushoga Olushola.
According to the statement, the ICPC’s inquiry stemmed from a petition allegedly submitted by individuals Folawiyo described as "detractors and enemies of progress" seeking to tarnish his image as the local government elections approach in Lagos State.
“As a responsible and law-abiding citizen, Hon. Folawiyo honoured the invitation and cooperated fully with the Commission, confident that the truth will always prevail,” the statement read. “He has since returned to his office and resumed his official duties.”
Folawiyo urged the public, particularly residents and stakeholders in Lagos Island East LCDA, to dismiss what he called “misleading and sensational narratives” circulating online. He encouraged his supporters to remain focused on the goal of collective progress and electoral success.
The embattled chairman also expressed deep gratitude for the support and solidarity he has received in recent days. “Hon. Muibi Alade Folawiyo appreciates the overwhelming support, prayers, and goodwill shown to him, and reassures everyone of his continued commitment to service, transparency, and integrity,” the statement concluded.
