Young Voices Loud in Praise: Sesi Whingan Changing the Face of Politics in Badagry, Clamour for His Reelection

Young people in Badagry are speaking out—and loudly too—about how Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, is changing the way political representation is done in their community.

Taking to social media, especially Facebook, several youths poured out heartfelt praises and shared their honest views about Hon. Whingan’s time in office. Many say that for the first time in a long while, they feel genuinely seen and heard at the federal level.

One post that struck a chord was shared by a user named E.M Sirbanky, who recalled the disappointment of the past when Badagry’s representatives barely made their voices heard in the National Assembly.

“I remember those years when people of Badagry used to wait eagerly just to see our MHR stand up and speak,” he wrote. “We would celebrate the few times they did like we had won a jackpot.”

He added that over time, he thought the House of Representatives simply didn’t allow first-timers to shine. But all that changed, he says, with the emergence of Hon. Sesi Whingan.

“Today, Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan has not only changed that narrative, he has also put Badagry on the national map with quality representation,” Sirbanky said. “He speaks boldly and clearly on issues affecting us, bringing national focus to areas in Badagry that need urgent help.”

Calls for Re-election: “Let’s Break the One-Term Jinx”

Another young voice, Michael Sewanu, made a passionate case for why leaders like Sesi deserve more time in office. He warned that those trying to discredit hard-working incumbents in the name of “change” might be setting Badagry backward.

“The struggle for who takes over from the current reps is getting intense,” he said. “But let’s not destroy the gains we’ve made. These young men are already in the system, learning fast, speaking boldly and building networks.”

Michael called on Badagry people to stop the “one-man, one-term” cycle that has held the constituency back for years.

“It’s time to break that jinx once and for all. These men deserve more. Any attempt to cut them off now is simply another ten years of political backwardness.”

Even those outside Sesi’s immediate political base are feeling the effect of his leadership. One commenter, Oyesanmi Peter Akin, responded to Michael’s post with a note of admiration:

“Frankly, I don’t know Bonu like that, but I’ve heard a lot about Sesi and the positive change he’s making. I’ve never met him, I’m not even in his constituency, but his work speaks loudly.”

He stressed the importance of giving new leaders a chance to prove their capabilities, instead of always assuming newer is better.

From the comments and conversations, it’s clear something is shifting in Badagry’s political space. For years, residents say they watched in silence as their representatives faded into the background after elections. Now, they say Hon. Sesi Whingan has flipped the script—speaking up, showing up, and putting Badagry’s needs on the national table.

The rising calls for his re-election show that many young constituents are tired of starting over every four years. They want continuity. They want progress. And most importantly, they want voices that are not just elected, but heard.

As 2027 approaches, one thing is becoming clear: Badagry youths are watching, and they are ready to stand by leaders who stand for them.
