The Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, has intensified efforts to improve road safety in the council area following a strategic meeting with the Federal Road Safety Corps.

The Unit Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Yusuf Sani, led a delegation of officers on a courtesy visit to the Chairman at the Olorunda Secretariat, where both parties agreed to deepen collaboration in tackling road accidents and other safety concerns affecting residents.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Sani said the meeting was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the FRSC and the local government while opening up new areas of cooperation for community development. He praised the Chairman for the warm reception and appealed for the FRSC to be included in future security stakeholders meetings in the council area.

According to him, stronger collaboration among security agencies and regular engagement with neighbouring communities would go a long way in protecting lives and reducing road-related challenges.

Responding, Hon. Kumayon reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to working closely with the FRSC to improve road safety, boost operational efficiency and strengthen service delivery across Olorunda LCDA.

The Chairman expressed serious concern over the increasing rate of road accidents along the Aradagun and Mowo axis, describing the development as alarming and requiring urgent intervention.

He also highlighted persistent structural challenges along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, particularly at the extended turning points which he said have continued to create difficulties for motorists and contribute to traffic risks.

Hon. Kumayon urged the FRSC to be more considerate in carrying out its duties, especially given the present political atmosphere and the need to maintain public confidence.

He disclosed that the council is already making plans to convene a comprehensive security stakeholders meeting that will bring together relevant agencies and community leaders to address pressing safety concerns and strengthen inter-agency cooperation.

Also speaking at the meeting, the Council Treasurer, Mrs. Olawunmi Olayinka Awisunu, called for more public enlightenment campaigns by the FRSC rather than excessive enforcement. She also appealed to the agency to keep the council informed about available job opportunities that could benefit residents of the area.

The Vice Chairman, Hon. Adele Bolaji Solomon, also stressed the importance of sustained synergy between the FRSC and the local government, noting that stronger collaboration would help promote community participation and create employment opportunities for young people.

The visit ended with the presentation of a commemorative plaque to Hon. Kumayon by Mr. Sani in appreciation of the council's support for the FRSC.

In response, the Chairman assured the delegation of the council's continued support and promised to pay a reciprocal visit to the FRSC.

Among those present at the meeting were the Leader of the House, Hon. Aina Dauda; the Council Manager, Mr. Moruf Olarenwaju Adesanya; and the Personal Assistant on Political Matters and Intergovernmental Relations, Mr. Adegboyega Oladiran.

The FRSC delegation also included the Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Abdullahi Oladimeji, Head of Operations, Hosu Oviyon Amos, and the Protocol Officer, Ameh Innocent.
