As political activities gather momentum ahead of the All Progressives Congress primaries in Badagry, a former Sole Administrator of Badagry West LCDA, Hon. Genesis Nuatin Williams, has come down hard on what he described as a growing wave of blackmail and toxic politicking among aspirants and their supporters.
In a strongly worded statement, Nuatin warned against what he called the antics of “electoral devils” who, according to him, resort to smear campaigns and falsehoods in a desperate bid to gain advantage. He said it was unfortunate that some political actors now believe that character assassination could override credibility and good conscience.
“It is that season again when certain individuals think arrant blackmail would trump good conscience,” he said, dismissing such tactics as delusional and unproductive.
Nuatin did not hold back in his criticism of those he accused of spreading misinformation, describing them as “disoriented figures” unwilling to take responsibility for their own political setbacks. According to him, rather than engage in destructive campaigns, aspirants and their backers should focus on selling their candidates based on merit and vision.
He emphasized that even in situations where internal party alignments may not favour certain aspirants, the right approach is to engage constructively and present convincing arguments to the electorate, not to undermine others through negative propaganda.
The APC leader stressed the need for political maturity, urging stakeholders to embrace peace and mutual respect as the primaries draw closer. He warned that the current trend, if unchecked, could heat up the polity unnecessarily and disrupt the unity of the party in Badagry.
Nuatin concluded with a call for restraint and responsibility, noting that politics should not be reduced to bitterness and division but should instead promote peaceful coexistence and collective progress.
