Sanwo-Olu’s Alleged Resignation Order: Lagos Government Debunks Viral Report

The Lagos State Government has firmly dismissed a viral report alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been asked to resign on health grounds, describing the claim as completely false and misleading.

In a press statement issued on Monday, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, said there was no truth whatsoever to the report published by Sahara Reporters, insisting that the governor remains in good health and is fully in charge of his responsibilities.

Akosile stated that at no point was Sanwo-Olu asked to step down, noting that the report is part of what he described as a recurring pattern of misinformation from the online platform. He reassured Lagos residents that the governor is mentally fit, physically sound, and actively discharging his duties without any hindrance.

The statement also clarified that earlier in the day, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Kadri Hamzat, visited the governor in a routine and cordial meeting. During the visit, Hamzat formally informed Sanwo-Olu of his intention to contest the governorship, a move described as standard political consultation rather than any indication of a leadership transition.

The Lagos Government said it would typically ignore such reports but decided to respond in this instance to prevent the public from being misled and to maintain confidence among residents.

Akosile urged Lagosians and the general public to disregard the report in its entirety, labeling it as fake news designed to create unnecessary confusion.

The statement reaffirmed that Governor Sanwo-Olu remains firmly in office and continues to lead the state without interruption.
