2027: Egovodu Movement Urges Badagry Rep Member Sesi Whingan to Recontest, Donates Campaign Souvenirs

A socio-political group in Badagry, the Egovodu Movement, has urged Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan to seek re-election to the National Assembly in 2027, citing what it described as his outstanding performance in office.

The appeal was made on Friday during a visit by members of the movement to the lawmaker’s residence in Badagry. The visit coincided with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, where the group also presented campaign souvenirs to the lawmaker as a show of support ahead of the next general elections.

Speaking on behalf of the movement, the group’s leader, Mr. Olufemi Iroko, said the call for Whingan to return to the House of Representatives was based on his “excellent performance” over the past two and a half years. According to him, the lawmaker has exceeded the expectations of many voters through what he described as quality representation and consistent engagement with constituents.

Iroko noted that the group believed Whingan still had more to offer the people of the constituency and urged him to continue the work he had started at the National Assembly. He added that the presentation of campaign souvenirs was meant to publicly demonstrate the movement’s confidence in his leadership.

Responding, Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan thanked the group for the visit and for what he described as a strong vote of confidence in his service to the people. He confirmed that he would seek re-election in 2027 and pledged to intensify his efforts in delivering more dividends of democracy to residents of Badagry Federal Constituency.

The lawmaker said the call from the group would further motivate him to work harder at the National Assembly to attract more development to the constituency. He assured supporters that he remained committed to effective representation and grassroots development.

Badagry Today understands that since his election in 2023, Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan has sponsored more than 15 bills and moved several motions on the floor of the House. He has also facilitated employment opportunities for youths and organised empowerment programmes in areas such as technology, agriculture and fashion design.

In addition, the lawmaker recently distributed solar power kits to 100 households across the constituency, a move aimed at improving access to electricity in underserved communities. He has also overseen the installation of solar-powered street lights on hundreds of streets across Badagry Federal Constituency, boosting security and enhancing night-time economic activities.

He further facilitated the construction of school buildings, fences and toilet facilities in several communities including Ikoga, Igbanko, Age-Mowo, Javie and Sito-Gbetrome, among others, as part of efforts to improve learning conditions and basic infrastructure in public schools.

The latest endorsement by the Egovodu Movement is seen by observers in Badagry as a significant political boost as discussions around the 2027 elections gradually begin to take shape.
